December 1st-2nd, 2024 - Introduction to Space Engineering for italian schoolers (Part II)

Outreach 5

As MSCA Ambassador part of the HARMONY Horizon Europe project, our enthusiastic Alessandro Mastropietro, was invited back to I.C. Leonardo da Vinci by popular demand.

He met with a new group of 100+ students, igniting their curiosity about space and showcasing how research can pave the way for innovative solutions to global challenges.

These events underline HARMONY’s mission to make science relatable, inspiring young minds to dream big while fostering a greater understanding of space research and its societal benefits.

September 29th, 2024 - From dream to reality: “Studying space systems for new technologies”

Outreach 4

In September, Alessandro Mastropietro contributed to a feature article in Il Resto del Carlino - Reggio Emilia, sharing his journey as a space researcher and highlighting the groundbreaking work of the HARMONY project. The article served as a testament to the importance of communicating research in accessible ways to inspire broader public engagement.

“I am now a PhD student in the Harmony industrial PhD project, part of the European Union Msca program (grant agreement No. 101072798, ed.). We are a group of nine PhD students, in various European institutions, with research topics ranging from space systems to antenna design and signal processing. The idea is to research topics that can support the development of new technologies and solutions for services in the context of the New Space Economy, such as navigation and localization, telecommunications in the 6G context, and Earth observation. The title of my Ph.D. for the moment is 'Model-based systems engineering and concurrent engineering for small satellites': basically I do research on design and management methodologies for the development of future space systems, and their digitization, with focus on standardized platforms, to be used for distributed systems, such as constellations.”

Outreach 2

The HARMONY team is once again committed to Outreach and Communication Activities!

Alessandro Mastropietro, as MSCA Ambassador for HARMONY, had the fantastic opportunity to visit a school in his hometown to give captivating presentations on space engineering. He introduced more than 100 italian schoolers to the world of research and MSCA activities, fostering a deeper understanding of space services and their relevance in our everyday lives.

We would like to thank Prof. Isgrò and the I.C. Leonardo da Vinci (Reggio Emilia, Italy) for making this possible, for their hospitality and the photos taken.

Together, we're not just advancing scientific knowledge – we're inspiring the next generation of scientists and shaping the future of research.

March 15th, 2024 - HARMONY at Britisch Science Week 2024 in Glasgow

Outreach 1

The Harmony team expresses its gratitude for the project involvement in the “Meet the Expert” event held during the British Science Week 2024. One of our PhD students had the privilege of sharing his expertise with families, children, and the curious audience at the Glasgow Science Center in UK.

Representing Heriot-Watt University, Aymeric Cailleux introduced the fundamental concepts of electromagnetic fields using a musical instrument called the Theremin. By utilizing the body's capacitance of the hands, it became possible to play this instrument without any physical contact. This served as a powerful reminder that electromagnetic waves permeate our surroundings.

The Harmony team is committed to offering such engaging activities, aiming to democratize science and make it accessible to all, thereby shaping our present and preparing for the future.
